The sun was barely peeking over the treetops on the mountain as Shyree Birke and her best friend Melanie Gibson rode horses through a lush meadow nestled between two peaks. Laughter disrupted the woodland creatures. The air still crisp from the night held the breath of the horses as they snorted, eager to expend pent up energy. Shyree nudged her horse, OneCent, into a canter; Melanie quickly caught up and side by side the women traversed the meadow in short time. A trail leading up the mountainside welcomed the horses and riders.
The horses started the climb that wound through aspen trees with brilliant yellow and orange leaves shimmering in the slight breeze that whiffed through them and finally came to a crest where the two women stopped the horses and looked out over the valley. A large ranch with a two story house, red weathered barn and several corrals were nestled in the valley, horses and cows milled about in pastures close by. The women dismounted.
