The young man in the old fashioned clothes was high. Though the bartender wasn't sure what drug had done it, he was certain the flamboyant stranger was on something. 'Nobody's that happy by nature,' he thought more than once as the man made his way through the room to the service counter.
Even being refused service didn't diminish his buoyancy, and his, "0h and why is that then?" was asked not in anger but simply good natured curiosity.
"Well sir," the barkeep replied, "you seem to've already had too much tonight."
"Ah-ha," the youth exclaimed in delight, "of course! You think I'm drunk! Not at all, not at all, I'm simply glad to be alive. I've had a marvelous experience tonight and I want to celebrate!"
"Pardon me for saying so sir but nobody's that happy," the bartender said emphatically, wiping the bar vigorously to signal an end to the conversation.
Even this rudeness left the stranger's bubble un-popped, and he said, "Well good night then! Long life to you!"
