Hannah glanced up at the door, waiting. It was always about this time of the day that he came in for his dinner.

Shrugging, wondering if maybe today he wasn't going to come in after all, Hannah continued to clear the tables and wipe them down.

How she wished when her mum and step-dad has gone on at her about doing well at school and maybe going on to college. But she thought she knew better, and wanted to get out into the world and earn a wage, not be tied to school and having no money. But now here she was, in a dead end job, spending hours each day working here, in the town's diner.
