What has come before…
Todd Mayfield’s ray of hope, Niedler, is in way over his head. With no more ideas on how to proceed with finding a cure for the zombie plague, he has beseeched Todd to find him some help. Todd has just the man in mind. Rudolph Ludlow, the creator of the zombie plague.
Tracking Scanlon and his crew of zombie pimps, the zombie hunter is ready to take his business to the next level. But the addition of Jenna to the group has completely changed the dynamic. While the zombie hunter may want to use this to his advantage, Mullen has become uncomfortable with what the future might hold.
For Rudolph Ludlow, time had just about lost all meaning. Its passage was something marked by others. He tended to the needs of his body. Eating. Sleeping. He even did so at what would be considered the regular times. After all, his jailers had complete control over his schedule. But he couldn’t very well identify the day of the week or even the time of the day. He’d given it all up. But his condition went further than just having lost track of the date. Ludlow literally didn’t feel the passage of time. During the empty hours he spent alone in his cell, his mind shut down almost completely. Scenarios played out over and over again in his mind. Though one might only take a few short minutes, or even seconds, to complete, he would relive them again and again. Thousands of times. Day in and day out. The players of these scenarios were many and varied. His ex-wife was a frequent participant. Lucy Koplowitz also became involved once in a while. He saw his parents and his siblings. He saw mates that hadn’t been in his life for years. He even saw Denise Luco and Lance Naughton once in a while, but not often. His mind was working hard to put his time in America into a tiny little box that could get very lost in his psyche. But try as he might, he couldn’t dispel one demon. Todd Mayfield was always there, mocking him.
