"It's not the end of the world--" Jules began, sitting next to their friend, putting a comforting arm around her.

"He dumped me!" Kathy cried. "On Valentine's Day! In the Sizzler parking lot, in front of everybody!"

A grimace crossed Gary's face as he put their cat down and hurried into the kitchen. "I'll just put some chamomile on..."

"What awful timing!"

"Seth did it that way on purpose!" Kathy said. "Just to humiliate me! He took me out to a movie, we played mini-golf, he bought me balloons -- and... and... and..."

Jules patted Kathy's back awkwardly as his friend broke down sobbing. Gary poked his head out of the kitchen, a question in his eyes, and Jules couldn't help but shake his head in the negative to the unvoiced question.

"Are you sure he was being cruel? Not just thoughtless?"

"He... he... he... he broke up with me through one of the balloons!"

"He What?"

Still sobbing Kathy pulled a wrinkled up shred of mylar out of her purse. Clearly written across its face was the legend, YOU'RE DUMPED. She looked at it, crumpled it up in her hand again, and launched into fresh wails once more.

"Holy shit, that's fucked up," was all Jules could come up with. "I'll be right back."

He quietly stood and joined his boyfriend in the kitchen.

"It's bad?" Gary asked.
