Shania stood at the entrance at Cedar Bend Country Club waiting for her father. He had called the day before and invited her to lunch at noon. She looked at her watch, finding he was already fifteen minutes late. While she was not particularly surprised, she was a bit irritated. Her father, prominent trial attorney, sometimes forgot that the world did not revolve around motions and arguments. He would never imagine being late for an appointment with a judge or opposing counsel, but family? Well, Shania was used to it.
Her phone rang. As expected, it was her father.
“I’m sorry, baby, I had to file an emergency motion at the courthouse. I’m on my way,” Lamont Carter said.
Shania rolled her eyes, but put on her best smile and answered with kind patience.
“It’s okay, Daddy. I was just waiting out front of the Club. It’s such a pretty day, and I really don’t have any plans other than lunch with you,” she said.
“Well, go on in and be seated. They should be holding a table for us. I will be there soon,” he replied.
