Foreword

I dedicate this small volume to Diane, who unwittingly sent me down a path of poetry-writing after giving me a book of reflections by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. You might see his influence in some of these poems, especially the ones about the Incarnation.

You will also see my own lived experiences in them. I like to think that being a restless, curious kid in the 1960s led quite naturally to becoming a Roman Catholic sister in the 1970s. But read my poems (please!) and maybe you can be the judge of that.

Poems

1. Curriculum Vitae

Who am I? Sister, singer,

high-minded, low-bred,

saint-sinner hybrid.

And you? Father, Son, Ghost, Three

and One, Spirit and

Flesh, Mystery Guest.

And we together? Dinner

and dance, a pageant, a ball --

a parade on Mardi-Gras!

2. Like a Child

To trust in love that might hide

behind stone -- to reach

for light that scatters
