The ocean brushed the beach with waves turned golden from the setting sun. Rachael brushed sweat from her forehead and plastered a few stray hairs against her scalp. Even at the end of the day, the cooling sea breeze was a welcome relief from the warm, sticky, South Carolina air. She felt like she had been running forever, but she was not ready to stop. Just the thought of driving back to her apartment made her sick to her stomach. So she pushed away the mental image and forced her weary legs to keep jogging. It was the only refuge she had left.
