Doctor’s Orders

Sarah hoisted her bag onto her shoulder as she got out of the car. She locked the door and opened the door to her doctor’s office.

The receptionist smiled at her and gave her some forms to fill out, the typical new patient forms. Sarah filled them out and handed them back to the receptionist, who told her to have a seat and that Doctor Thompson would be with her in a moment.

Sarah sat down at one of the chairs and started flipping through one of the magazines. She’d just moved to the area, and this was her first doctor’s appointment in the new city. She didn’t know Doctor Thompson, but he came highly recommended to her from a friend.

Sarah glanced at her watch impatiently. She had to get back to work. She was the head of sales for the region, and as a result she was always, always busy. Finally, a nurse came out and called her in to see Doctor Thompson.

Sarah followed the nurse into the doctor’s office. It was empty, so she sat on the bed, the paper below her crinkling.

After two minutes, her new doctor walked in. He wasn’t quite what Sarah had expected. Her old doctor, whom she had seen for over 10 years, since she was a kid, was short, old and balding. Doctor Thompson on the other hand was young, probably in his early 30s, and handsome with hazel eyes, hair to match, and a beautiful smile. Sarah couldn’t help but think her mother would faint with happiness if she brought a handsome, young doctor home for dinner.

He shot her one of those beautiful smiles before sitting at his desk and looking over her chart.

“Alright Sarah, what have we here?” he asked. “You seem to be in relatively good health, no major problems or anything?”
