Tawanda’s round green eyes stared up at me from the footrest of my favorite recliner. “I know what you’re thinking baby girl. It’s time to get out and about.”

I had spent the last three days unpacking boxes from my latest move and while Tawanda enjoyed playing in the empty boxes, she could sense the cabin fever that was growing inside me.

I reached down and stroked the soft fur of the year old black cat who remained my only companion from the past year and the only soul worthy of making the move with me. At thirty- six, I decided the small town college I was teaching at was not stimulating enough for me and I had dated the only three lesbians available to no avail.

So, here I sit on a foggy Saturday morning, U-Haul trailer unloaded and returned with my trusty black cat, open laptop and fresh cup of coffee in Memphis, Tennessee. Lucky for me the local branch of the University had an opening for a Psychology Professor that had a case load that would pay the bills while I pursued my true love of writing.
