The purpose of this report is to provide you with 25 examples of the correspondence used by selling writers. Query letters are by far the most important because if the editor doesn't ask to see your idea in manuscript form, it simply won't be bought. Therefore I turned to colleagues in the American Society of Journalists and Authors and asked them to share letters and proposals that worked for them, with the emphasis on travel. Of the many responding I drew from six, in part to provide a wide spectrum of styles and approaches. To Richard Marini, Olivia Miller, Lynn Narlesky, Sally Wendkos Olds, Rachel Pollack, and Kathleen Reimer, I'm particularly grateful.
