“Danté when did you start feeling like this?”

“After I got the invitation to the reunion.”

CHAPTER 4

Old Friends

Kalliah parked her car opposite Cherese’s. She spotted Cherese getting out of the vehicle. Brianne gave Kalliah a questioning look.

“Girl I don’t want more drama. She looks like she’s okay though right?”

“Humph, I thought she said she was waiting for him to get dressed. I don’t think he would have let her leave the house alone.”

Cherese’s outfit showed she shopped at the “One of a Kind” boutique. The top to the salmon pantsuit had sheer sleeves and a low front. It fit her well. Her makeup was flawless, but her appearance told it all was a cover. Kalliah sighed knowing what Brianne said was true.

“Well, we’ll see. I won’t question her now but look at her Bree, she looks sick or tired maybe both. I don’t want to be looking at her in a hospital again.”

“Shit or a grave.”

“What, you think it’s gone that far?”

“I think it and you know it. But I stopped trying to pull shit out of her. We’re all friends if she chooses to pretend she’s hiding it all, let her. That may be her only way to cope.”

“Bree coping ain’t living.” The two unbuckled their seat belts to get out of the car.

“Yeah but when it’s all you got, you settle for it.”

Cherese tipped quickly in her heels to greet her friends.

“Look at ya’ll. Hey, Bree I am so glad you changed your mind.” Cherese hugged and kissed each of them being careful not to mess up the hairdos or makeup. “Yall look like new money shit, damn I’m really glad you’re gonna be around awhile. We’ve got so much to catch up on. Not here, I mean you know between us.”
