Your Introduction to Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston was born in Sherman Oaks, California in 1969. Daughter of model Nancy Dow and actor John Aniston, Jennifer spent her early childhood with her half-brother in sunny L.A. However, a lack of work forced the family to briefly relocate to Greece, her father’s home country. Following a year in Greece, the family moved to New York City, but Nancy and John divorced soon after. Jen, by then a gregarious adolescent, stayed with her mother and attended the Rudolph Steiner School. She was then accepted into the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. After graduating, Aniston won parts in off-Broadway plays such as For Dear Life and Dancing On Checkers’ Grave. Jen later moved to L.A. to pursue work on the big and small screens. Although she was successful in winning parts, none of this work could sustain her career. Following a disastrous role in the early nineties low-budget horror movie Leprechaun, Aniston considered leaving showbiz forever. She ultimately decided to stick with her dream, and a couple of years later she was cast as Rachel Green in Friends. The hit sitcom propelled Aniston to stardom, allowing her to take on roles in films like The Object of My Affection and Office Space. Running between 1994 and 2004, Friends helped Jen to cultivate her image as the ultimate girl next door. She then used this image, and her notorious comedic skill, to build her status as a movie star. With a string of successful films like The Break-Up (2006), Marley & Me (2008) and Horrible Bosses (2011), Aniston cemented her position as a superstar and one of the most successful actresses in the world.
