Mommy’s New Job
It was the same routine in the Hanson household every Friday: Matt coming down from his room to the smell of bacon frying and the sight of his mom flipping the last pancake on the griddle. He smiled when she looked up at him, her blonde ponytail bobbing as she lifted on her toes to accept his kiss on her check.
“Mom…I’m eighteen now. I’ll be moving out after the summer. You don’t have to cook me breakfast every Friday,” Matt commented, taking the stacked plate she handed him before sitting down at the table.
“You’re right…” Matt’s mom conceded, her face pained as she took the seat across from him. “My baby is all grown up, and soon I’ll be here all by myself… Let me be mom for just a little while longer okay?” she teased now, poking his arm with her fork.
“So…are you still looking for a job? You know I plan on getting one as soon as I get settled on campus, but I won’t be able to help you out as much as I do now…”
