Chapter 1: Introduction to Figure of Speech

Figure of Speech is a literary device which is widely used in almost all forms of literature. When a word or a group of words is used to diverge from the usual meaning, it is termed as a figure of speech.

A Figure of Speech can also be used as a special repetition, arrangement or omission of words with literal meaning, or a phrase with a specialized meaning not based on the literal meaning of the words in it, as in idiom, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, or personification.
