Prologue

Saturday morning was a scorcher. Whitney had dragged himself out of bed at five simply because it was too hot to sleep. He took a shower and wandered around the apartment naked, yawning. In four hours he would be meeting an associate and he knew that, with the information this associate gave him, he could still be up in the small hours of Sunday morning. He hated projects that kept him out all night. “Well, me boy,” he muttered in his best imitation of his Irish grandfather, “’tis a tough life all over.”
