CHAPTER ONE

I hate this job, I hate this job, I hate this job. Beth Ann Sorenson muttered as she opened the lateral file cabinet. What, oh, what had she done to ever deserve this punishment? She was a paralegal for the law firm of Greyson, Sanders, and Delacorte in downtown Atlanta. The highly successful firm occupied luxurious office space in a beautiful glass fronted building close to the heart of the city. It also rented office space in a downtown banking annex which was mainly used for storage, however, junior partners that misbehaved often found themselves relegated to doing penance in the abysmal space. The floor was covered in an ugly green shag carpet and the walls – well it was hard to tell what color they had been originally. Clearly, the space hadn’t been redecorated since the early eighties.

And this was where she found herself early Friday morning, searching for what she just knew was a nonexistent file for one of the senior partners, Mr. Sanders.
