I sat in the cold gray office of my Professor while I attempted to grade thirty page essays that were turned in the week prior. This was not what I envisioned when I applied to be a teacher’s assistant last semester. I had heard from various sources that being a TA was a cake walk. In addition to an easy grade, it was almost a guarantee to an awesome recommendation for grad school. I had always worked hard for my grades so a little downtime sounded like a godsend. I had assumed that I would grade papers, wave to the students, and then go wait in the office and nap until class let out.
Sadly for me, a small respite in my schedule was not to be. I was hoping to get a math class. I was a bit of a mathematics whiz and could probably grade quizzes and exams rather quickly leaving ample time to relax. I had stellar grades in everything, so they looked at my extracurricular. I had always shied away from sports so what I ended up doing were things like debate team, model UN, and the young politicians club. Those after school activities ended up sinking my aspirations to be a math TA.
