Santa’s Little Helper
Brooklyn’s stomach sunk with disappointment at her parent’s request. They’d been doing the neighborhood Christmas party every year for the last five years, but this year her mother was too sick with the flu to even get out of bed. The party was tonight, and they were both looking at her expectantly, waiting for her answer. Her boyfriend Mike was also waiting for her to get to his house so that they could finally get some alone time together, but now, that didn’t seem like it was going to happen. It was their senior year, and with them both going to different colleges Brooklyn wanted to spend as much time with Mike before they went their separate ways, but how could she say no to her parents. They’d just given her a car for her eighteenth birthday last week, and had even agreed to pay for the insurance so that she didn’t have to get a job. She didn’t want to seem ungrateful.
“But…the Mrs. Claus costume won’t fit me…” Brooklyn scrambled for an excuse, hope lifting and then fading just at quickly at her father’s next words.
“I thought of that… It’s too late to return it and get a refund, so I thought we’d go to the party store and see if we can get you an elf costume in exchange.”
