As he rounded a bend in the road, a splash of color off to one side caught Ben’s eye. He stopped for a closer look. Lying full length on the ground was a petite but shapely female form in brown sweatshirt, faded blue jeans, and white sneakers. She held a digital camera to her eye, and was focused on something in front of her.

As he stepped off the road, she said quietly, “Don’t move, please.”

Pausing, he saw that there was a large green snake in the grass in front of her, his head raised, red tongue flicking in and out, and eyes staring into the camera lens.
