Versipelles – Plural

Avis – Bird. Singular.

Aves – Birds. Plural.

Sars – Period of time equivalent to 3600 Earth years.

Spastic – This term, as used in the book, means a person who appears and acts strange. Its derogatory usage did not begin until the 18th century.


CHAPTER ONE

Sud’s sporadic sniffles echoed across shimmering lake waters. She pulled her knees to her chest and tucked her chin. Unable to catch her breath, her body convulsed and shook with each sob. A deluge of tears mixed with blood to create briny crimson puddles in sand. Matted golden locks covered her face. She pushed the strands aside, revealing daylight. The sudden bright sunlight caused her to flinch and blink. Her vision then adjusted to the blazing star’s rays.
