To all those afflicted with this wonderful madness we call theatre. So what if it isn’t Broadway?
Introduction
For those actors, directors—even tech people starting either professionally or fun, the curious, and for those who just love theatre—this book is meant or you. It includes my thoughts on acting including auditions, monologues, evaluating criticism, and seeing the reality of the business and the art of theatre. Indeed, having theatre in your blood comes with a madness to overcome--a crazy madness, and a crazy love at the same time. Once it’s in your blood, there’s no denying you can’t live without it. I wish there was a theatre mania today with everyone rushing to the theatre; however, its day will come again.
ActingSmarts’ Jack Shaw’s blogs and critiques are read by everyone: actors, director, producers—even regular theatre goers for the plain, honest, caring truth that can only come from some who has done it. The author has been a professional actor, director and critic. Learn insights into theatre you may never have realized. Acting and directing actors are not as easy as it looks—especially if your only theatre experience is from watching it. That’s fine. We love it when you appreciate our art. Jack Shaw has lived theatre, from a “Best Supporting Actor” and a scholarship to his local university; he has lived and breathed theatre. It’s a little hard to believe when you consider he didn’t want to be an actor in the first place.
