A review on How the Mind Works by Steven Pinker

Introduction

Steven Pinker, author of How the Mind Works was born in Montreal in 1954. He has a bachelor’s degree in experimental psychology, which he studied at McGill University and is currently a college professor in Harvard University. Pinker has been awarded a number of prizes from the American Psychological Association and has published a total of five books. He shows great interest in all aspects of the mind including language and visual cognition, which he discusses in depth throughout his book How the Mind Works. Pinker can often appear overly enthusiastic about his ideas, but realistically there are still many uncertainties which prevent us from truly understanding how the mind really works. In this evaluation I will be giving you my views on a number of aspects of this book, not only describing what I found to be enjoyable, but also reasoning behind why I felt this book was somewhat tedious to read.
