Introduction

When my curiousity about Indie Filmmaking started to arise, my dilemma was where and how I could learn proper knowledge on filmmaking when I could not even afford to attend formal classes in filmmaking schools that time. Thanks to the workshops conducted by Direk Raymond Red, one of the pioneers of indie filmmaking in the country through his award-winning movies “Bayani”, “Sakay”, “Himpapawid”, etc. (Film Directing); Ralston Jover of “Kubrador” & “My Binondo Girl” (Scriptwriting), Ordonie Egon Layson (Flash Animation), Nap Jamir II (Cinematography), Leo Abaya (Production Design), Jesse Lucas (Music Scoring), Danny Anonuevo (Film Editing), Cicero Danseco (Film Marketing & Publicity), and Malayang Sining Kayumanggi Productions led by Jeffrey Copiaco, Ruel Enoya, Nika Zelith Layson, Charles Mico Marasigan, Maria Fe Miraflor & Kate Villaflor, for initiating such valuable workshops.

With this INDIE FILMMAKING GuideBook, which is written simply like a glimpse, I want to share what I have learned from those workshops, experiences, and research & studies I’ve been through for years, with a hope that this may help those students and aspiring Filipino indie filmmakers who have that depth of passion for the art, and determination to reach a dream despite our limited resources.
