Traced to a Meeting

It had been about three weeks since I had started working here at “Tracey, Simmons, and Kent” and I had been slowly finding my feet. As I had discovered, the business here was mainly about acquisitions. In layman’s terms they bought and sold things, usually big things, and usually for profit.

The three names on the building were usually referred to as “The big three” I had yet to meet, or even see Simmons and Kent but as business kept humming along I assumed that they were around and eventually my curiosity was replaced by work.

On that note, I had not even seen much of Douglas over the last few weeks. After making such a big deal about being at his ‘beck and call’ there was not one little beck, nor one big call over the last three weeks. I must admit, I was a little… well I didn’t want to say hurt as that sounded clingy, so maybe ‘put out’ was a better turn of phrase. I’ll use that then. I must admit I was a little put out not to be summoned at least once over the last three weeks. I guess it felt like not getting a phone call when one was promised. We’ve all been there. The old “I’ll call you.” followed by weeks of your phone doing its best impersonation of a monk during a vow of silence. In this case, however, the felling was a little more claustrophobic as I was working in the same building as Douglas and yes, he was my boss.
