The title of the book is Stephanie’s Ponytail. This book is written by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Michael Martchenko. This story takes place at Stephanie’s school and at her house. The main character in the story is Stephanie. She is in elementary school and wants to be different than her classmates. She notices that her classmates copy her hairstyle. Stephanie is very smart and sneaky.
Stephanie asked her mother for a ponytail in the back of her head. When she gets to school, the students make fun of her hairstyle. They tell her, “Ugly, ugly, very ugly.” The next day, Stephanie finds out that all of the students copied her hairstyle. Stephanie was upset that everyone looked just like her.
She didn’t stop trying new hairstyles. She decided to try a ponytail on the side of her head, which was right above her ear. Her mother thought the hairstyle was very strange, but she still gave her the ponytail anyway. When Stephanie got to school, the students said the same exact thing, “Ugly, ugly, very ugly.” Stephanie responded, “It’s my ponytail and I like it.”
The patterned continued. Stephanie tried different hairstyles and everyone kept copying her. She told the class that she was going to shave her head. Because everyone copied her before she assumed that the class would take her literally. Stephanie came to school the next day with a nice ponytail in the back of her head. She walked in the classroom and found all of the students and the teacher had shaved their heads bald.
