This book languished for quite a long time until I made contact with Mr. William R. Short, author of Icelanders in the Viking Age: The People of the Sagas and keeper of the website http://www.hurstwic.org, who kindly gave me the vital clue that allowed me to solve the question, ‘how can the heroine do the impossible?’ I am also grateful to my mother, Donna W. Armstrong, for her assistance with editing and to my Facebook friends who are not afraid to wade in with constructive criticism on cover art. The tree on the cover stands in a vacant lot on Main Street in Bothell, Washington.
