It was the darkest of times in Judea, despair hung over every home like death creeping among the incurable. God’s people had not heard from the Lord for generations and the Roman Empire had sent ruthless soldiers to occupy their lands. King Herod ruled over God’s people. He was a horrid man, a puppet of Rome, who ruled the Hebrew nation with an iron fist.
