As soon as my wet sub breaks the surface of the moon pool, I remove my mouthpiece and diving mask. I want to get in and out of Varuna as soon as possible. It’s not that I’m that anxious to get back to my own city, Acheron; it’s just that I never like to stay in Varuna any longer than I have to. That might be the one thing that I have in common with most of the people of my city - even if we feel the sentiment for entirely different reasons. As citizens of the capital city, most Acheronians feel debased by spending time in “inferior” surroundings. Me, I just don’t like the people here. Since Varuna is bigger and arguably more prosperous than Acheron, some Varunans feel their city should be made the new capital. As a result, they treat anyone from Acheron with self-righteous disdain. I don’t care about the whole capital dispute – I just find their attitudes annoying.
