Once Upon a Christmas Evil
By Joshua Skye
Christmas Eve 2004
Mackenzie’s mother Svanna sat beside him on his bed. “Looks like we’re going to have a beautiful Christmas morning,” she said as she gazed contemplatively out of his bedroom window. Though she’d been in America for longer than her son had been alive, she still had an accent. Her Icelandic roots ran deep. She smiled as she looked at him. Tenderly she reached over and moved a stray hair out of his eye, tucking it behind his ear. Her smile was contagious. He couldn’t help but offer her one in return. “Be sure to stay in bed,” she warned. “Or the jólasveinarnir will get you.”
