“Of all the places in all the world.” Lee muttered under his breath as he plopped himself down. Everything was arranged in a small circle under the shade of a huge leafy tree. “Why did dad have to move us to a town where my best friend is a girl?” There were four small dolls propped up against stones, two to his left and two to his right. The dolls were dressed in long beautiful lacy gowns and plumy hats. In the center of the circle was an elaborate tea set. It included a plate of imaginary cookies and make-believe tea service. Lee picked up his cup and saucer groaning.
Sighing, Lee looked into the empty cup. He was an average sized boy of thirteen. He had dark black hair that he kept very short. He had more than his share of scraped knees and dirty elbows. There was a light blue line under his left eye. It was the last remnant of the fight he was in last week. The scuffle was over the outcome of a ball game. Lee’s team won and the other team didn’t like it.
