United States.

You have been found guilty of murder of the worse kind...”

He never thought that it would end up like this. It all happened so fast and now he is living on the streets. Everyday is a fight to just to stay alive.
“I am so cold. It’s getting late and I have got to find somewhere safe to sleep.”
It’s the same everyday and every night, wondering where to find food and where to sleep. It was easier when he was in the army, at least he knew who he was fighting. Now, on the streets when someone approaches he never knows if they are going to be friend or foe, if they are going to give food, money or if they are going to be aggressive and try to give him a beating.

He turns down a dark alleyway.
“Maybe I can find somewhere sheltered from the cold down here.”
He stops and turns, he thinks he is being followed but he sees no one. He continues down the alleyway and then he finds a boarded up doorway in the corner.
“Yes, this will do, it’s dry and out of the cold.”
He looks around for some cardboard and whatever he can find to lay on the ground to sleep on. He gets down on the ground and tries to get comfortable but laying on the cold ground is not a place for getting cozy. While he lays on the ground he thinks about his life and how it was.
