Every poem, every song lyric, indeed every book has a story behind it. Sometimes those stories are as interesting as the work itself. I recently wrote and published an autobiography called "I was a drummer she was a dancer" that included 25 original lyrics at the end of the book. Since it is a true story, it was marketed as nonfiction. But I think I missed my audience by it being marketed that way. It is romance, love, music, art, dance, loss and a lot more. Look it up. These are the lyrics from "I was a drummer she was a dancer" and the stories behind writing them that are not told in the book.
On the swing set in my backyard age 5, I started singing and making up a song. It was my first song. And it was inspired by those songs I was hearing on the radio in 1963. This was pre-Beatles. It was all about driving cars and going out on dates in your Daddy's car. And dinosaurs, of course, because I was five. So I took the elements of the typical early 1960's rock and roll song and cemented them together with what most five year olds are fascinated with. The results are kindergarten meets teen years. Barney meets The Beach Boys.
