The Cleaning Lady

Janet Zindell has been the cleaning lady at the Hotel Flamingo for forty-one years, almost as long as that weary and oddly-inhabited backstreet hotel has existed. She is eighty-five years old, but looks forty. More accurately, she has lived for eighty-five years but is chronologically forty or so (impossible to pin down, as you'll see). She's been under forty more than once, and there was a bad year there when she hit forty-four, but most of the time she's about forty. She has no family, no friends, no lovers, no baggage; no-one at the Flamingo is there long enough to notice except Harry Saddlefoot, and Harry makes a point of never realizing that anything is amiss inside his hotel.
