But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.”

II Corinthians 10:17-18

When I was three years old, my mother taught me to read by using Dr. Seuss books, one of which was the story of “Yertle the Turtle.” “Yertle” was Dr. Seuss's personification of Adolf Hitler, and at the bottom of the turtle stack was a turtle named “Mac.” He got very tired of being stepped on, and having the weight of all the turtles bear down on him.

I’ve written this book to give voice to all the “Macs” who are sick of being stepped on. It’s a “view from down here” approach. It’s how our “culture war” looks on a day-to-day, work, home and family level. This book is also about how our national policies have affected the everyday American.
