A pier stretching into a languid lake slumbers in water that has taken on different shades of red, yellow, and orange. Tossing a few pebbles would suffice for ripples to reveal a liquid as rich as lava. A dark mountain range on the horizon separates the sky's volcanic eruption from its mirror image on the lake, exposing no less than nature's majestic power. The shadows cast by the pier upon the water's gentle surface float hypnotically, as if in a cradle rocking towards infinity. Tiny twigs dangle drearily in dusk's imperceptible wind, like a skeleton's long bony fingers, lending an otherwise gorgeous scenery the eeriness of a vacant lot.
