The boat bounced against the dock as we went aboard. I didn't like water, or boats, or the cops calling me out late in the evening. I'd become allergic to the night, but they didn't do that often and when they did it was usually serious.

Captain Morris gestured at me and I walked as steadily as I could to where he stood at the cabin door.

Dallas, glad you managed to make it,” Morris said. He had that squished up look to his face that always made me connect his name with that cat food commercial.

I'm always happy to help the police, Captain. What's going on?”
