Fear and History

We currently live in a very docile community. We have become weaker physically and mentally as we are bred up in a community that relies on peace in order to keep it together. We rely on the fact that someone else will step in in order to protect us, and we have little natural protection over such things as predators. We have no guns, no defence skills, no militant training, no real way to protect ourselves if ever the world changes from its docile state in order to turn evil and corrupt. We rely on the police to keep our streets safe, we rely on security technology in order to keep our houses and cars safe, and we rely on the military to keep out country safe. We are like babies growing inside a nest which has been built in order to make us feel safe - and the world stays safe.

However history is a lot more violent then the world in which we live. There have been wars breaking out since humanity began. People once learned to grow rough and to defend themselves with violence, or they stood up as pawn in order to wait until violence took them down. This is what scares people today as we look back on history and see a world of barbarianism which we do not have the skills to defeat if it ever rose in our community.
