Break Up Sex, Five Years Later

A string of bad luck alerted Sylvia to the fact that her karma might be a little unbalanced.
First, there was the fact that her paper hadn’t been delivered in three whole days. It sent her entire day into limbo when she couldn’t leisurely peruse the paper over a cup of coffee and bagel spread with cream cheese. Irritated, she contacted the newspaper’s business office, but they were as baffled as she was.
“The carrier’s been marking you delivered,” the person on the other end of the line informed her. “Maybe someone’s been stealing them.”
The second bad thing was that everyone had to take pay cuts at her work.
“But the economy’s bouncing back,” someone had protested when her manager made the announcement.
“The economy may be bouncing back, but we’re not,” the manager said flatly. “Take it or leave it.”
