There had once been a time when no one could fly as wild and as daring as Great Lucifer. Little Luke knew that. He was sure. Even if nobody talked about it. There are things you just don’t talk about. Why? Because you just don’t.
Great Lucifer was always very silent and earnest. Oftentimes he sat on his throne for hours on end without uttering a word, just thinking and looking with unseeing eyes. But little Luke could sit with him on his throne when Great Lucifer was sitting and thinking. And little Luke believed that Great Lucifer was thinking of the times when he had been the swiftest and boldest flyer under the heavens. With his white wings he shot across the sky from the morning down into the evening and up again into the morning.
How Great Lucifer had lost his white wings, that was something little Luke did not know. Once he had asked his mummy, but she just smiled silently and gently stroked his head. Little Luke understood that this was something you didn’t talk about.
