GYOTAKU: Japanese from gyo “fish” + taku “rubbing” a form of art dating from the 1800’s originally used by fishermen to record their catches.

By placing the “subject” on a flat surface and painting one side with sumi ink, a piece of rice paper is carefully applied on top of the subject and is pulled off with a mirror image created on the paper.

Joe Salas, whether by accident or inspiration, created Death Impressions.
