"Sit here," Prince Khorshid said.

The puddle of lead-gray water in the center of the glade shivered as the scarlet and rust leaves passed the recent rain to the forest floor. A dark stone overlooked the water, just touching the grass. The thunderheads clogging the morning sky dulled the contrast between shadow and light, already muddled by the thin spars of wet trees.

Princess Tienette glanced past Khorshid at her brother Yves, who carried his damp bow unstrung against one shoulder. "This place? Here? It looks uncomfortable."
