Don’t sulk, Abigail.” Mother said tucking a stubborn lemon colored tendril behind Abigail’s ear. “It is not ladylike.”

Oh, Mother, there are more important things in life than being a lady,” How Abigail wished she were still curled up in bed instead of listening to lectures about proper behavior. She didn’t like to be sassy but sometimes Mother acted as though there wasn’t a war going on. Abigail grabbed her egg basket from the kitchen table kissing Mother’s cheek to make up for snapping at her.
