I woke up and opened my eyes, but the world remained black. I blinked once, twice, but the world still remained black. I was in bed, after having slept a night full of frightful dreams. I had no idea how late it was.I touched my eyes, but felt nothing out of the ordinary.

Tom?” I asked, expecting my husband to still be beside me, in bed. I got no reply. I heard the birds chirping outside and cars passing our house. I touched the bed beside me, but it was empty.
