Chapter 1

Well, it isn’t much. That was an understatement for the lackluster house, but there was no alternative. She walked forward when the box in her arms began to feel heavier. She had to downsize life altogether since Hal died. There was no way a single woman could afford a mortgage and two car payments, not on what she made. Perhaps it would be different in an urban area with plenty of well-paying jobs, but not here. Why did those sudden changes have to be so drastic and arrive together? It had only been six months since the wreck. She couldn't afford to relocate elsewhere once the bills were paid.
