The plan was a good one: simple, lucrative and, best of all, no one got hurt. No one, that is, if you didn’t count a few insurance companies—and she didn’t. All Chrissi Hyde had to do was buy six or seven properties with her husband, sign up for Mortgage Life Insurance, wait for her husband to die, and sit back while the insurance companies paid off the mortgages. Then, she could sell it all and have a nice, juicy lump of cash, or live off the rents for the rest of her life. The plan was better than good; it was great. Now, all she needed to set it in motion was a husband planning to die in the foreseeable future.
