THE MILK JUG WAS A GOAT
Two families, two Caribbean islands, 1635-1987
Chris Birch was born and grew up in St Kitts, going to school in Trinidad and Barbados, before coming to England where he has spent most of his life. But he has returned many times to the West Indies, where some of the research for this book was done.
His grandfather, who was Postmaster of St Kitts, inspired him with a love of the island's history. When one of his uncles died in 1987, he found an old tin trunk with an even older family tree going back to 1686, and his interest in his family's history was born. These two interests came together in the writing of this book.
His other interests include HIV/Aids: he worked as a volunteer at London Lighthouse and the Terrence Higgins Trust for many years and represented Lighthouse, walking behind Princess Diana's coffin in her funeral procession. And since 1992 he has been a volunteer at Westminster Abbey.
As a journalist, he has worked on a wide variety of publications and was editor of one of them for 13 years. He lives with his wife in Fulham, West London.
