Chapter One Hunky Dory
He heard footsteps outside his bedroom. Cole bolted upright in bed listening for any other sounds. Someone was in his apartment, but whether it was a friend or an enemy, he didn’t know.
Cole glanced quickly around just to be sure his room was empty. It was dark except for a band of light coming through the window that cast a dull glare along the far wall. The closet was wide open, stuffed to the gills with dress shirts, a long row of black slacks, and a couple of costumes. He doubted there was someone under his bed, but he decided to check just in case. He flipped on his stomach as softly as possible and leaned his head over the side. The space under his bed was clear.
He felt foolish, like a little kid checking for monsters.
