Dedication

I am dedicating this book to my son, James David (JD) who provided the spark for the creation of the Journey to Mars series as we spoke over a McDonald’s Happy Meal one summer day way back in 2003. JD’s keen mind had figured out that we already have the technology to get us to Mars. He just wondered when we were going to get there.

I began writing Journey to Mars in 2003. My young son was nine at the time and fascinated with outer space – one day at McDonalds he told a policeman who asked what he wanted to be when he grew up that he wanted to be an astronaut.

The guy made the mistake of asking him why he wanted to become an astronaut. JD promptly told him that “when people are up there in space – they are lighter than down here on Earth.”
