With slumped shoulders and a deep sigh, April Kelly unlocked the door and settled her tall frame into the small car. Carefully keeping her face completely impassive, she turned on the ignition and drove out of the school parking lot. April was ten minutes down the highway before she started to let the tears flow. The day from hell was now officially half over. The other half was soon to begin.
Megan’s voice had been so cold and unfeeling when April phoned home earlier that day. She had called hoping to hear a friendly voice; she hadn’t. Wondering what her crime had been this time, and whether it would bring her another week of the silent treatment or a two day screaming match, April wiped the tears from her eyes and tried to get a grip on her emotions.
